In every program there is a group of "behind the scenes" workers who make things happen. Individuals who provide the basic foundation for others to build upon. These people are indispensable, but often their efforts are not obvious.Al Woeste is an example of these "behind the scenes" workers. He was described as quiet, personable, unflappable, always there contributing. And always with a smile. The Woeste's have six Alter graduates, the oldest in 1969 and the youngest in 1992. There was a period of time when they had no one at Alter, but Al was still there.Al was an electrician by trade and was involved in all kinds of projects ranging from the lighting of school plays to installing new scoreboards. He volunteered himself and family members volunteered along with him. His most intense involvement began with the Alter Fun Festival. Al assumed responsibility for designing and setting up the entire electrical system for the festival and for the entire physical set-up. Al earned the title of "Father of the Festival." Al was not just a foundation for the festival, but rather a keystone. Woeste was inducted on October 24, 1987 at a Dinner Dance in honor of the 25th Anniversary and Hall of Fame Induction.
